1- 100% natural physical sunscreen
Sunscreen provides physical (or organic) protection that stays on your skin, unlike protections with chemical filters that can penetrate the epidermis. Avoid any reaction to the sun by choosing our sunscreen and protect the environment by avoiding polluting sunscreens!
No Compromise: List of ingredients that we do not use found in most chemical filters: Oxybenzone, Octisalate, Octinoxate, Avobenzone, (Parsol), Octyl Methoxycinnamate, PABA, Benzophenone, 2-Ethylhexyl-4-Dimethylaminobenzoic acid… Other ingredients that we do not use and which may be found this time in physical filters: Polysorbate 20, Parfum or synthetic fragrance, PEG, Parabene, Phenoxyethalnol, Titanium dioxide, etc.
2- Natural and organic ingredients
All Mission Nature sunscreen ingredients meet the strictest standards for natural and organic formulation. (pesticide-free, renewable and biodegradable) Main ingredient: Organic jojoba oil: One of the favorite ingredients of the Aztec people, jojoba oil is hydrating and humectant and suitable for the most sensitive skin. Organic shea butter: Used in Africa for millennia, this ingredient is very moisturizing in addition to softening the skin. Organic sunflower oil from Quebec: Rich in vitamin E, very moisturizing and softening. Buriti oil: Directly from the Amazon rainforest of Brazil, very rich in carotenoids, antioxidant and photoprotector. Prevents sun damage and gives a pretty beige-orange color to our sun lotion. Zinc oxide: Very effective natural ingredient to protect from the sun. Becomes transparent upon application when added in a quality formulation.
3- No nanoparticles
Almost all sunscreen lotions that use chemical filters are absorbed by our children's skin. On the other hand, even natural ingredients like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide can be composed of nanoparticles, which are too fine to remain on the surface of the skin. Look for products marked “no nanoparticles”.
4- High Protection with SPF 30+
An SPF of 30 is an excellent choice and sufficient for sun protection. Our sunscreen is rated 30+ because results from a certified independent laboratory were above an SPF of 30. What is SPF or SPF? The protection index is the FPS (Sun Protection Factor) or SPF in English (Sun Protection Factor). This index mainly measures the duration of your sun protection following application. We multiply the SPF by 10 min which is equivalent to 300 minutes, or 5 hours for an SPF of 30. Does your dermatologist recommend an SPF of 75? Tell him that no product will be able to display an SPF higher than 50 according to the new regulations of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) which has jurisdiction in Canada. An SPF of 75 will not offer your child better protection. Many consumers wrongly believed that an index of 50 provided twice as much protection as an SPF of 25. Only duration is a significant factor. In the marketing madness of solar products, some manufacturers take advantage of consumer confusion and offer SPFs of 90 and even 100.
5- Formula pleasant to apply
A physical sunscreen applies evenly to the skin without penetrating it. As soon as the screen becomes transparent on the skin, we move to another region of the body. It must remain on the surface of the epidermis to maximize effectiveness. A physical sunscreen is effective upon application, unlike chemical filters which must be applied 20 to 30 minutes before being exposed to the sun.
Becomes transparent upon application: Unlike several formulas using zinc oxide, Mission Nature sunscreen becomes transparent upon application due to the quality of its formulation. Good viscosity: Good viscosity makes application easier, especially on children's foreheads so that the product does not flow into the eyes. Non-greasy: Yet very hydrating, this sunscreen is non-greasy. No pronounced odor: A very subtle apricot scent that will please everyone.
6- Approved by Health Canada
To be on sale in Canada, all solar products must have an NPN or DIN number assigned by Health Canada. Our sunscreen displays an NPN (natural product number) because it does not contain chemical filters which are assigned a DIN number. Note that Health Canada refers to FDA (United States) regulations for the approval of sunscreens for sale in Canada.
7- No superfluous valuable mentions
Several valuable statements are contested because in many cases, they provide a false sense of security to consumers. For our sunscreen, we only use the terms permitted by Health Canada and that of our organic ingredients which are verified by the independent organization Québec Vrai.
- Water resistant: The words “water resistant” or “water repellent” can no longer be used. Manufacturers will simply have to specify the duration, either only 40 or 80 minutes, for which their products protect in water or against sweat according to standard tests. With these very short deadlines, you must be vigilant and carry out more than one application during aquatic games, regardless of the mention on the product.
- Approved by professional associations : Several products are recognized or approved by different professional associations. Note that in most cases, the manufacturer must simply pay an amount to the association and respect a few conditions. Several products bearing this notice have not been tested.
- Hypoallergenic: All sunscreens, physical or chemical, and even with the hypoallergenic label, should always be subject to a small skin test. By applying a small amount to the inside of an arm or on a calf and observing the skin after a few hours, you will, in the majority of cases, obtain your answer. Observe the area involved again after 48 hours to confirm the result.
